Is Inanda a rural or urban area?
Inanda (isiZulu: Pleasant Place) is a township in Eastern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, 24 kilometers inland from Durban; it is now part of the Greater Durban Metropolitan Municipality.
Why was Inanda built in the location that it is?
Inanda was founded in the 1800s as a “reserve” for Africans, but it also housed a large number of Indians until 1936. The area was then designated as a “released area” for the exclusive use of Africans, and the Indians, who had coexisted peacefully with Africans for years, were forcibly evicted.
